Banner Birthday Card

Do you ever have a project you have to keep fussing with? It doesn't even have to be an art or craft project, just anything. For me, that project was this card. I love the way it turned out. However, the journey was not so smooth.
This is the card I made for my sister's birthday, so I wanted it to be really special. Along the way, I had issues with messed up stamping, color choices, and even the inside sentiment ended up askew. But I told myself to keep going and not stop. I've learned if I don't give up and just keep pushing myself to finish, I'm usually very happy with the end result.
What projects have you experienced this with? I would love to hear how you worked through it.

Vintage Find- Typewriter

I am so excited to show you my new typewriter! Isn't she beautiful? :) I happened upon her in a serendipitous event.

Many times I had driven by this antique store on a somewhat country road. I have always wanted to go in and peek around. However, there always seemed to be a reason that I couldn't- until the other day! I walked around looking at glassware, antique furniture, and other home goods. I barely noticed a black case out of the corner of my eye as I turned the corner. Then, I felt as if I should look to see what it was. I read the tag, "1970's Portable Typewriter". Immediately, I grabbed the handle and carefully set it on a table to get a better look. When I opened the case I saw this beautiful blue typewriter! I was so excited! I've been wanting a manual typewriter for display but also to use on journal pages. Then, I realized it was only $22 and on sale! It was a match made in heaven! Aside from the ribbon being dried up, it works great! Luckily, I was able to find replacement ribbon online. It even comes in dual colored ribbons! How fun is that white typed on kraft cardstock?!

I am so excited to add typed words to my journal pages and cards! And it will be great displayed on my craft bookshelf!

Untraditional Valentine

I think pink is overrated.
Please hold your torches and pitchforks and let me explain!
Pink is just not my thing and I feel it gets overused at times. There are so many wonderful colors in this world! With Valentine's Day creeping closer, I begin to dread the explosion of pinks and reds. Therefore, I created this non pink and red Valentine card. The glitter still makes it girly.

The inspiration for this card came from another Papertrey Ink challenge.

This card has lots of dimension and sparkle!

What are your favorite colors to use for Valentine cards and projects?

Hello Friend

I'm so glad you stopped by today! I've been busy with the Girl Scout cookie season. However, I did find some time to make this cute card. I was inspired by this Papertrey Ink challenge. I always find it refreshing and relaxing to create, even when its been a long day. The act of creating seems to center me and give me clarity. Does that happen to you?
I hope that you will stop by again!

Couch Makeover

I've been in my apartment for about three months and am very slowly getting around to decorating. The first project on my list was a couch makeover. I was so excited to get started on it I forgot to take a picture. The couch was brown leather (or pleather or vinyl) and didn't really fit my taste anymore. I've had this couch since I graduated from college a few years ago. It needed a makeover.
**A huge thanks to my mom for helping me!

I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby and just fell in love. It's canvas so I know it will hold up for a while. And I used my coupon so it was relatively inexpensive. In the photo it looks a little bright. However, I'm sitting here looking at the couch and it blends in with the room very well. Next I will work on pillows and a throw. It may take a little while because I am planning to knit them. I think some knitted fabric will be a nice contrast with the canvas.

This project involved a little sewing. But I attached everything with my staple gun. It's pretty simple, just took some time and patience.
Some other plans I have for this room:
-pictures (The blank walls are really starting to bug me)
-painted coffee table and side table
-a tall black bookshelf for all my books and movies
Almost all of my furniture needs a coat of paint or some fabric. I will be sure to share as I finish them.

Super Bowl Sunday 2014

You might be expecting some pictures from a Super Bowl Party I attended. Or some photos of super cute football themed food and decorations.
Actually, I spent my Super Bowl Sunday making this journal. Before you take pity on me- I was invited to a party, but declined because the next few weeks of work will be crazy. I wanted a quite evening at home doing my own thing. :) That's exactly what I had and I loved every minute of it!

The inside of the journal has Gelli printed pages. I planned out my colors a little, but really just let the Gelli Plate do most of the work. The cover is the page I used to clean off my brayer. I had a mishap of purple paint all over that page, so I just brayered it out and continued. I do not feel the cover is finished, so I will go back to do something with it. I'm just not sure what that will be yet. I am planning to use this journal for doodles. I like the idea of doodling on printed pages instead of plain white. I have a little phobia of a blank canvas. :)
I hope you enjoyed your Super Bowl Sunday and did what makes you happy!

Life Book Weeks 2 and 4

I wanted share my collages from weeks 2 and 4 of Life Book. Each was created using a prompt. I will admit, I'm not really happy with either one of these. However, I cannot pin point what I should have done differently.
The prompt for week two was to create with a gray and neon color scheme while finishing the sentence, "I want more ____ in 2014." Love just seemed like a good choice. Everyone in the world could use a little more love. I'm ok with color scheme. It seemed to work pretty well here.

In week four, we were asked to create a collage using three things we liked. My three things were purple, tracing paper (the yellow piece), and birds. I struggled a lot with this one. I even put it aside and started a new one. Then I decided I had gone too far not to finish it.

Like I said overall, I'm not that happy with either one. However, the point of Life Book is learn. Part of that learning process is to push through. Then look back and discover ways to improve. I can feel my artistic muscles stretching and growing through this process. That's a great thing!
I've been working on week 3. It was a longer lesson, but a great one! It includes several drawing activities.
I hope you all have a great week! See you soon!
